Father, Can You Teach Me How to Live?

This book highlights the spiritual lessons of my first two years under the spiritual direction of Father Jeffry Moore. Since I live in Florida and Father Jeffry lived in Central America, we had to rely on email and social media to communicate. Patiently answering my questions with clarity and depth, he helped me untangle the knots of relationships, ministries, work, and self-care. Over time, his guidance made my life more manageable…and happy!

Good Morning, Miss Tracey!

When Miss Tracey was young, she used to to play “school” with her little brother. Now that she has grown up and become a real-life teacher, she has the opportunity to try out all of the innovative instructional ideas as a first-year middle school teacher. But will she also be open to the opportunities for romance and spiritual growth that will knock on the door of her heart?

Merely A Shadow

A Catholic Inspirational Thriller
from the writing team of Kathleen Alford and from her co-writer
who wishes to remain a mystery…

The war was on…the war to win back Francesca’s heart. Scarred by his service in the Army’s Special Ops forces, civilian Kyle Kramer came back home to find the only person that mattered to him, only to find that Francesca was engaged. Torn between two loves, Francesca knew she still loved Kyle, but she didn’t understand that the man who stood before her now suffering from PTSD was merely a shadow of his former self. As Kyle’s plans collide with those of Francesca and Liam, Kyle fervently prays that she will make the right decision—for their future…and for her own survival.

My children and I read the first book and really enjoyed following the journey of Ms. Tracey. We all love Ms. Tracey's spunk, fiery temper and loving heart. I just found the physical book and love the cover! We will be buying the book. It'll be something we read and read again. Just bought the first 5 chapters of the second book on Vella. Can't wait for the second book to come out.

The author of “Father, Can You Teach Me How to Live?” dedicated herself to living out a Christian vocation but discovered she still felt unsettled. Inner harmony often eluded her, despite her many fulfilling roles including wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, writer and parish lay leader. She turned to a priest friend, Father Jeffry Moore, for spiritual advice and direction. The life-changing result of their discussions forms the basis for this book. The book takes you on her journey through question-and-answer essays that can help readers trying to sort through their inner lives and deepen their spirituality. The format allows readers to pick and choose among topics that most interest them. This 2023 release is a second, updated version of an earlier book of the same name. I enjoyed that one but like this one even better because the author provides thoughtful discussion questions for each subject. She also shares links to resources for readers who want to delve more deeply into a specific topic. The supplemental material makes this edition ideal for Catholic book clubs and faith groups.

I couldn’t put the book down. “Father, Can You Teach Me How to Live?” is a fresh reminder for some and a new road map for others: Joy in the full Christian life is found by changing how we live, not so much in acquiring an extra layer of academic knowledge or theology. The book is a two-year, long-distance conversation between two interesting people, Kathleen M. Alford, a retired educator who now works as a tutor and writer in Florida and Father Jeffry Moore, a dynamic Catholic priest who is currently based in Panamá and who has the ability to impart the deepest truths about God and life with humor and loving compassion. Father Jeffry is also president of Women Here and Now, “a humanitarian organization of volunteers dedicated to the economic empowerment of women in vulnerable communities.” The book gives a good sense of the author’s busy daily life and the spiritual questions she confronts while trying to balance work and play, be a good spouse, and dealing with “paperwork purgatory.” The book’s short, conversation-style chapters are easy to read because of Kathleen M. Alford’s gifted writing style. Her voice is clear and direct in the book’s 54 compact chapters. Author Alford’s questions are ones we all have. The answers from Father Jeffry Moore are loving and encouraging, the way a good father teaches his child. The book’s format such chapter titles and subtitles, font, font size, line spacing, use of bold text, and even its rare emoticons created a book that is a fast read and quick reference as I found myself going back to chapters I had already read as its thoughts, like seeds, began to grow in my mind and I wanted to think more about a topic as I reread the actual conversation between Alford and Father Jeffry. “Father, Can You Teach Me How to Live?” would make a great book for small group discussions. Highly recommended.
